Environmental Impairment Liability
An Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) policy provides coverage for liability arising from environmental pollution or contamination. With the rise in environmental regulation, laws, penalties and enforcement by Australian regulators, it’s critical to ensure your clients business is adequately protected. Ocean’s EIL covers legal liability for clean-up costs, legal expenses and damages resulting from environmental damage, including emergency and restoration costs. Our EIL product is available as a standalone policy, or as a key “add on” for a general Liability policy.

EIL might suit your client if they:
Hold, store, or own property containing the following contaminants:
- Asphyxiant, explosive and toxic gases (e.g. methane, helium, propane and nitrogen)
- Contaminated effluent or stored wastewater from the manufacturing process
- Flammable and combustible products and substances (e.g. diesel, petrol, ethanol and methylated spirit)
- Fibres (e.g. asbestos and synthetic substances)
- Inorganic products and compounds (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate)
- Metals (e.g lead, mercury and arsenic)
- Manufacturing byproducts (inorganic)

Your client may be exposed to pollution risk from their location or from the business activities they undertake, for example:
